Local learners acknowledged at annual GET Awards
Grade 9 pupil Humairaa Ismail and Grade 6 pupil Zuhairaa Sardiwalla were placed second and first respectively
The Uthukela District held its third annual GET Excellence Awards at the Town Hall on Friday morning. The aim of the programme was to reward education excellence in the General Education and Training Band. The event consisted of a programme including talks by many notable guest speakers, a variety of musical items, as well as an entertaining monologue performance.
Two Islamic Educational Centre (IEC) students were rewarded for their excellent results in an Afrikaans exam paper set by the Department of Education. Grade 9 pupil Humairaa Ismail and Grade 6 pupil Zuhairaa Sardiwalla were placed second and first respectively for their results in the Afrikaans June examination. Both received certificates and medals for their outstanding performances. Their Afrikaans teacher, Mrs Zaakira Jhetam, was also awarded a trophy and a certificate to acknowledge her role in teaching and guiding them to produce such good results.
Guests were treated to refreshments after the programme had concluded. Well done to our local learners for being excellent representatives of Ladysmith!
