Update – Suspected explosion at substation leaves residents in the dark

Steps into repairing the substation are currently being taken.

Municipal workers are currently working on the substation, that caused a power outage earlier this morning.

“The lightning arrestor for one of the phases flashed over at Central A substation. We are trying to isolate the arrestor, so we can get the remaining areas back on,” claimed a municipal official on scene.

While an explosion was allegedly heard this morning at the substation, the municipal official said the breaker had tripped and locked out at the Signal Hill Substation, causing the power outage.

The sections of town  that have been affected are Lennoxton, Paradise, town central (inclusive of the CBD)  and the townland’s substations. This has in turn affected Barry Hertzog Park and certain areas of Hutten Heights.

It is still unclear at this time when the substation will be repaired.
