Dundee’s much-maligned road network is under huge pressure this weekend with literally hundreds of buses and cars using all the main roads to ferry those involved in the SALGA games at sports facilities throughout the municipal area.

The first reported accident occurred this morning shortly after 8.30am when a bus, taking basketball and volleyball players, collided with a bakkie at the intersection of Victoria and Tandy Streets.

The driver of the NDE registered bakkie told the Courier that he was driving behind the bus which indicated it was turning left into Tandy Street.

The bakkie driver then started to overtake the bus on the right.  However, it was then that the bus swung right and hit the bakkie.  The bakkie careened off the road, flattened a post box and several road signs and settled half-way on the pavement.  There were no injuries.
