The bridge was built by the Department of Arts and Culture to initiate a process of the removal of racial and social barriers between the different population groups. The Battle of Blood River has been commemorated separately on each side of the river each year. The theme for this year is “Social Cohesion, Reconciliation and National Unity in the 20 years of Democracy” , promoting reconciliation and nation building in the country in the era of freedom and democracy.
