Get a selection of Christmas movies in categories of your choice
Okay, so everyone is excited for Christmas. Some people are already decorating (I mean, look at the stores). But then you wonder, what can I do to fill my schedule on Christmas Day?
1. Find Rudolph – Get several people together and make someone Rudolph. Let Rudy go and hide without the searchers knowing where (obviously), and then let them go search for dear Rudy. The first person to find the red nose reindeer wins. You might be wondering what the difference is between that and hide ‘n seek? Well, the difference is there is only one hider and numerous seekers. This one is really good to play with children.
2. Read Christmas stories – Everyone brings a Christmas story or poem. Then the names of those stories and poems are written on a piece of paper and put into a hat. Each person draws a name and has to read that story out load. This game is great for a few laughs and who knows, maybe you will even learn something.
3. Christmas movies – Get a selection of Christmas movies in categories of your choice, for example romance, drama, action (are there even Christmas action movies?). The person whose birthday is closest to Christmas Day chooses what movie everyone is going to watch, then the person whose birthday is closest to the person who just chose a movie chooses next, and so you go till everyone has had a chance to pick a movie or until the snacks run out. Not everyone can be outdoor people and believe me, I understand.
4. Frosting cookies – Get or bake cookies (or whatever you want to use) and frost them. It is as simple and easy as that. You would be surprised at how much fun it is, especially for small families of three of four people. Try using sweets like Jelly Tots for something extra.
5. Swimming pool games – We have the wonderful privilege of celebrating Christmas in summer, so this one is a no-brainer, but if you still need some ideas, why not rent a blow-up slippy slide for the day and invest in a lot of bubble bath. You get the idea. If you have a big yard, why not try cricket and Boer sport games.
