Update: Horror crash claims police officer’s life
Warrant Officer Dube leaves behind his wife and five children
The horror crash that took place yesterday afternoon on the Bergville road claimed the life of Warrant Officer Bhekizitha Moses Dube (43).
Warrant Officer Siyabonga Mncwango (45) and Warrant Officer Bhekizitha Dube were travelling in a state vehicle along the R616 towards Ladysmith when they were involved in a head-on collision with a truck. Attached to the Ladysmith Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences Unit, they were on duty at the time.
Warrant Officer Dube died at the scene, while Warrant Officer Mncwango sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
The driver of the truck was also injured and taken to hospital.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Bergville Police Station for further investigation.
Warrant Officer Dube leaves behind his wife and five children. At the time of his passing, he had served the SAPS for 20 years.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, has extended her condolences to family, friends and colleagues. “I want to extend my condolences to the family of Warrant Officer Dube. It is always sad when we lose a member of the SAPS family. I also want to wish Warrant Officer Mncwango a speedy recovery. We hope he will be back with his family soon,” she said.
