‘Silly’ season no more
Speaking about the future of the project, Mr Randeree believed the project was now ready to expand to other sectors of the CBD.
The ‘silly’ season of criminals is over in areas of the Central Business District.
This is what committee members of the Safe CBD Project want to tell the community, because there has been an undeniable drop in crime in the areas covered by the project.
“We had one major incident during the festive season, when a tsotsi attempted to stab one of our guards,” said project chairman, Yousuf Randeree.
The guard apprehended a suspect after he had allegedly attempted to steal a purse and necklace.
After arresting the suspect and taking him to the police, the he allegedly drew a knife on the guard.
“The man was charged moments later and has a pending case against him.”
Other than this one major incident, Mr Randeree said there had been two other isolated incidents or robbery, but in these cases as well the suspects had been apprehended.
Speaking about the future of the project, Mr Randeree believed the project was now ready to expand to other sectors of the CBD.
“We have worked out the kinks in the organisation and shown excellent progress. If any business would like us to expand the project to their sectors, they should contact the project executive committee,” he said.
