Arrested for intimidation

Police have arrested a 30-year-old male for discharging a firearm in a built up area. The public alerted police officials after the gunshot was heard. The suspect who claimed to have come to collect money, was arrested for intimidating of the house owner with a firearm. The suspect has appeared at Newcastle Magistrate’s Court. Further investigations continue.

Possession of Mandrax and dagga

Newcastle Police arrested a 40-year-old man on January 10 during a stop-and-search operation for possession of dagga. The suspect was found with more than 20 grams of dagga and has appeared before Newcastle Magistrate Court. Further investigations continue.

In a separate incident, Newcastle Police arrested two suspects on Monday, January 12, for possession of dagga and Mandrax. It is alleged the police at court noticed the suspect give a container to a prisoner in police custody. Policemen searched the suspect and found Mandrax tablets and dagga. The two suspects, aged 20 and 23 years, were charged with possession of dagga and Mandrax and are expected to appear at the Newcaslte Magistrate’s Court soon. Further investigations are under way.

Arrested for dealing dagga in oSizweni

It is alleged that police received information on January 14 of dagga being sold at a premises in oSizweni. A search was conducted and 34 packets of dry dagga were recovered. The suspect, aged 47, has been charged and is expected to appear before court soon.

Job seeker becomes rape victim

Police are investigating a case of rape following an incident at KwaMathukusa. The 21-year-old victim hoped to get work after being promised a job opportunity. The suspect informed the victim to prepare an ID copy for him to come and collect. Upon arrival at her home, the suspect found her alone and allegedly raped her. Police advise the public to verify jobs at Department of Labour. Government posts are not paid for. Report any person who wants money for employment in that department. Confirm the school with the Department of Education before paying registration fees for any school.

Suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm

Following an investigation, Madadeni detectives arrested a suspect for possession of an unlicensed pistol in Blaauwbosch. It is alleged the 30-year-old suspect was involved in a shooting incident. Further investigations continue..
