Dog poisoned at SPCA
It is believed that one of the dogs living at the SPCA has been poisoned, however, it is unclear who was responsible for the act of cruelty.
Cheeky can often be seen dashing around the SPCA’s premises, a happy little mutt that dotes on affection.
It is inconceivable she almost lost her life last week Tuesday evening due to poisoning.
SPCA inspector, Elize van Rooyen, said she had received a phone call early last week Wednesday morning, informing her that Cheeky had been found laying unresponsive at the SPCA premises. “I sped to the SPCA to pick Cheeky up before rushing with her to the vet,” said Ms van Rooyen.
After a checkup and being put on a drip, it was speculated that Cheeky had in fact been poisoned.
Describing the Cheeky’s condition, Ms van Rooyen said the dog was shaking uncontrollably. “Her tongue was hanging out and she was totally unresponsive. We didn’t think she would make it at first.”
However, Cheeky proved she was fighter to the core and was released on the following Thursday.
Ms van Rooyen urged pet owners to be vigilant. “People should check their yards for anything strange looking that dogs could eat,” she advised.
She also warned culprits who are guilty of poisoning animals. “If you are caught, you can be charged,” she concluded.
