The commemoration yesterday of the battle of Rorke’s Drift was marked by an historic football match featuring ‘redcoats’ and Zulus.  The game, organised by local hotelier, Charles Aitkenhead, was played in a fine spirit with the Zulus prevailing 2-1. The pitch was rough, the crowd enthusiastic and the game played hard.

The redcoats featured players from Dundee – drawn mainly from Mike Cherry’s NEMS business, hockey players – the Rattray lads from Fugitive’s Drift Lodge and visitors from the  UK, including one real soldier who we interviewed below after the match.
