Justice prevails, three behind bars
The suspects allegedly attacked a farmer at Doornkloof Farm in Groenvlei and managed to get away with cellphones and R14 800 cash.
Three men were sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment by Newcastle Regional Magistrate’s Court recently.
The men were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of ammunition without a licence and armed robbery on October 2, 2012.
The suspects were remanded in custody and denied bail.
The suspects allegedly attacked a farmer at Doornkloof Farm in Groenvlei and managed to get away with cellphones and R14 800 cash.
Investigating officer, Khulekani Nene, apprehended the suspects less than an hour after the incident. The suspects were attempting to flee to Gauteng at the time.
One of the firearms used in the robbery was allegedly stolen from a police officer in Hillbrow, along with cash and cellphones.
Once the suspects was found guilty,and the stolen property was returned to the farm owner who expressed his gratitude towards Groenvlei detectives.
