Schools take centre stage at Sports Challenge

This year's festival or sports will involve children under 13 from local schools.

The eight annual Endumeni Winter Sports Challenge will bring something different to town this year as the event focuses on sports development.
This year’s festival or sports will involve children under 13 from local schools. Organiser, Ash Khan, has already approached schools in the area to compete in three sporting codes – cricket, soccer and netball.
So far Ethangeni, Glencoe Primary, Mpati and Dundee Primary have already agreed to enter teams.
The action will kick off on a Thursday and end on the Saturday.
On Thursday the grounds will be open to all school children who want to experience the thrill of the rides.
For just R30, the youngsters can buy an armband which will entitle them to unlimited rides on that day.
All the finals will be played on Saturday with big money up for grabs. The winning teams in each sporting code will win R2 000 while the runners up will get R1 000.
Netball and Soccer will both be contested in 7-a-side games while Cricket will be a 6 over, 6-a-side competition.
There will also be an exhibition of boxing on Saturday which aims to promote the sport in the area.
Sporting enthusiasts can also expect to be wowed on Sunday as plans are in place to have a senior soccer tournament and a volleyball competition as well.
For more information, or if you would like to enter your school into the sports challenge, contact Ash Khan at khan.ashruff2@gmail.com or on 082 875 9046.
Deadlines for submissions are March 18.
