BREAKING NEWS: Fire engulfs ANC office, arson suspected
A forensic team from Pretoria is en route to Newcastle to investigate a case of arson following the burning of the ANC offices.
The interior of the ANC offices in Harding Street was ravaged by a fire early this morning.
While circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear at this stage, an unofficial police source claimed the fire broke out in the early hours of this morning at around 4am.
“The fire was extinguished and while there were damages, the building did not collapse,” the source claimed.
Police spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela, said a case of arson was opened.
“We are now waiting for a forensic team from Pretoria to investigate what had transpired leading up to the fire,” he claimed.
