Thieves target Vryheid Rugby Club

TOWARDS the end of January, on more than one occasion, Vryheid Rugby Club became the target of thieves, who somehow gained access to the premises despite the presence of ADM Security at Cecil Emmett Park, and helped themselves to equipment and appliances belonging to the club.
Upon their first expedition, the perpetrators allegedly stole copper pipes from the building, leaving the club without water for an inconvenient period of time, as well as relieving the club of tackle bags and practice equipment. According to situation reports, dated January 20, at approximately 7:00pm, security officers on duty at the time were unaware of the robbery until they were informed thereof by members of the rugby club. The report states that the rugby club members informed them that the theft of the copper pipes and practice equipment had occurred at some point during the previous night.

On their second visit to the premises, in the early hours of the morning of January 31, the brazen burglars somehow managed to flee with one of the club’s televisions as well as speakers and an entire sound system. The second robbery, according to situation reports by the guards on duty at the time, took place while said security guards were patrolling the area near the Ski Boat Club. The time noted in their report book was approximately 3:38am. According to their report, the alarm sounded and Link Up arrived at the scene.
At the time of going to press, no further leads had been established.
