Voortrekker Sports Day
The four rugby teams that represented Sarel Cilliers at the above sport day on March 28, did their supporters proud by winning all their matches.
The u/15 team played against Kuswag and with good, supporting play, good ball handling and excellent defence, they beat their opponents with a good margin of 38 points to 12.
The u/16’s had a hard match against a highly motivated and strong Voortrekker team that was particularly strong in the scrums where the Sarel boys had to dig deep to come out tops with a narrow margin of five points to none.
Voortrekker brought another strong scrum against Sarel’s second team but in this match their back line was no match for the Sarel runners and Sarel Cilliers ran in a few excellent tries together with very good defence, preventing Voortrekker to cross the try line. The final score was a deserving 38 points to Sarel and 3 against.
The first team from Sarel Cilliers met a highly motivated team from Weston that was not going to make it easy for the Sarel Lions.
As with the other teams Weston had a very strong scrum and it was only in the second half when Sarel’s forwards managed to take the initiative and sometimes even demolished Weston’s scrum. That left space for Sarel’s very agile runners to run in a few spectacular tries to win the match with a comfortable 26 points which Weston could answer with only a penalty conversion of 3 points.
