Armed robbery in Laager Lane
As the owner was giving them airtime, one of the robbers pulled out a firearm and held it to his head
CS Take Away in Laager Lane, Modelkloof, was robbed this morning (April 9), with owner Abdul Hunnan being held at gun-point.
3 suspects wearing hooded jackets entered the shop and asked for R10 airtime. As the owner was giving them the airtime, one of the robbers pulled out a firearm and held it to his head. According to Abdul, he heard one of them say “shoot, shoot”, but another said “no, don’t shoot”.
The 3 armed robbers tied him up in his office with DVD cables, tying his legs together and his hands behind his back. His mouth was covered with duct tape so that he couldn’t shout for help.
The firearm-wielding robbers made off with a large amount of cash, airtime, cigarettes, and 2 cell-phones. Abdul’s ID and wallet were also taken, as well as the CCTV hard-drive. This means there is no footage for police to identify the culprits.
After they had fled on foot, Abdul managed to pull the duct tape off his mouth and free his legs. He shouted for help from inside the shop, but nobody could hear him.
Taking his chances, Abdul exited the shop and went to one of his workers’ houses for help. The worker called Crime Stop and helped him untie his hands.
He still has marks on his hands from where the robbers tightly secured the cables.
The Dog Unit (K9) was first to respond to the scene, followed by Crime Intelligence Gathering (CIG) officers.
No arrests have yet been made.
