Police seek answers for two collisions
“We want any witnesses to the incident to please come forward, so as to allow justice to be administered effectively,” said a police source.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened following a collision between a car and a cyclist.
According to the police, the driver of the vehicle had been returning to Newcastle from work in Dundee, when the cyclist had allegedly turned across his pathway after failing to stop at the Kilbarchan off-ramp.
The cyclist sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the Madadeni Provincial Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
“We want any witnesses to the incident to please come forward, so as to allow justice to be administered effectively,” said a police source.
The incident occurred on March 27 at approximately 6pm.
A case of drinking and driving was opened following a collision between a bakkie and a car on the Madadeni Road near the train station.
The incident occurred on March 29 at 11pm.
Allegedly, the driver of the car was attempting to make a U-turn.
He was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and did not see the approaching bakkie.
The bakkie collided with the rear of the car and the driver of the bakkie fled the scene.
“We believe the driver of the bakkie may have also been under the influence,” explained police.
No one was seriously injured.
