BREAKING NEWS: Shadow Minister’s home gutted in fire
"According to the fire chief, the cause of the fire is not known at the moment."
Former Newcastle Democratic Alliance (DA) Councillor, and current Shadow Minister of Environmental Affairs and Member of Parliament, Thomas Hadebe’s oSizweni home has been burnt down.
The blaze is believed to have begun between 11am and 12 noon, but has since been extinguished.
Thankfully, Mr Hadebe’s family was unharmed.
Efforts to reach Mr Hadebe have proven unsuccessful, as he was travelling to Cape Town for the next sitting of the National Assembly.
DA Amajuba district Constituency Head and Member of the provincial Legislature, Dr Imran Keeka was contacted.
“According to the fire chief, the cause of the fire is not known at the moment, and investigations into the matter will take place accordingly.”
Dr Keeka explained that Mr Hadebe had been informed of the incident and would be returning to Newcastle to address the immediate concerns of his family.
“We are thankful to the fire department for their efficient work in addressing the matter. The house is inhabitable at the moment, due to extensive water and smoke damage, but the Honorable Hadebe’s family is safe and this is what concerns us most,” said Dr Keeka.
Dr Keeka was in the process of arranging accommodation for the family and further reports on the matter will follow.
