Joy riding in traffic officials vehicle

Sources explained the car belonged to an off-duty traffic cop

Two suspects turned themselves over to the police after joy-riding in a car near Vezebhule.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela, the vehicle was valued at R35 000 and had been parked at a home in the area.

“After it was stolen, police circulated the vehicle’s description and began a search for the vehicle,” he said.

Sources explained the car belonged to an off-duty traffic cop and alleged the officer had forgotten the keys in the ignition, making the car an easy target for the suspects.

They also confirmed the vehicle was used in a joy-ride by the suspects, who turned themselves in two hours later, when the realisation of their actions hit.

Capt. Magudulela said the suspects remained in custody and further investigations into the matter were ongoing.
