Newcastillian safe after Nepal earthquake

Businessman, Nico Oosthuizen is safe, sources in contact with the family have confirmed.

Intrepid explorer, Nico Oosthuizen, is reportedly safe after an earthquake struck Nepal on Saturday.

The businessman was part of a climbing group tackling Mount Everest, and according to sources in contact with his family, Mr Oosthuizen has evaded injury.

The earthquake magnitude has been recorded as 6.7 on the Richter Scale.

News sources worldwide confirmed the earthquake hit near Nepal’s capital city of Katmandu, killing thousands of residents including more than 17 climbers traversing mighty Everest.
