BREAKING NEWS: Four car wreckage on Allen Street
According to on-site paramedics, a total of four people were injured and had to be taken for medical treatment.
Freedom Day celebrations were cut short this morning after a four-car collision on Allen Street split traffic and left witnesses in a sombre mood.
The collision occurred at approximately 10am, and initial reports suggest the hatchback travelling towards Volskrust veered into the oncoming lane and crashed into a bakkie. The two other drivers could not avoid the collision and collided with a trailer and each other in their attempts to avoid the collision.
Due to the extent of the damages, the hatchback soon caught alight. Fortunately, the quick response from the fire department ensured none of the victims in the collision were burnt, and the flames did not cause extensive damage.
According to on-site paramedics, a total of four people were injured and had to be taken for medical treatment.

Two of the patients received moderate wounds., while the third patient was in a serious condition and the fourth in a critical condition.
Between the fire and wrecked vehicles, traffic on Allen Street has been hindered, but on-scene traffic officials are working to ensure traffic continues to move smoothly and the area is cleared.

According to sources, one of the drivers involved in the collision was allegedly driving under the influence.
A call for CCTV cameras to be placed in the area has been issued in recent weeks, following numerous collisions and cases of dangerous driving.
Investigations continue.
