Seniors club helps promote healthy living

Altogether 105 people accessed the free health services at the World Health Day event

Proper health care as well as regular medical check-ups are not a priority for most people. It’s often expensive, difficult to access or not worth the bother but the Estcourt Senior Citizens Club took on an initiative on Wednesday, April 15 that combatted all of these obstacles.

The club members celebrated World Health Day and to promote healthy living, free screenings were done at the Forderville Primary School Hall and Sai Clinic. The hall was transformed into a mini-health centre as health professionals and volunteers assisted with the screenings, which included, amongst others, breast and prostate cancer examinations and blood pressure checks.

Public Relations Officer for the club Mrs RD Peerbhay said that it was heartening to note that a large number of men took advantage of the free prostate cancer screening. Altogether 105 people accessed the free health services at the World Health Day event.

“The senior citizens club members would like to thank the community for their support and patience. Grateful thanks go to all those who contributed to the success of our World Health Day event,” commented Mrs Peerbhay.
