Police have intercepted a consignment of drugs, which they believe were destined for Estcourt and other areas in the Midlands. R400 000 worth of drugs were recovered in a home in Hopewell in Thornville on Wednesday at about 11am.

Members of the Pietermaritzburg Public Order Police task team arrested two suspects, aged 30 and 31 for allegedly dealing in drugs. When police searched the house they found 1 000 mandrax tablets, 1 700 ecstasy tablets, 2 200 straws of whoonga and six parcels of heroine.

“A case of dealing in drugs was opened for investigation at the Thornville SAPS,” commented police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane. The suspects appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court on Thursday, April 23.The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the members for the speedy arrest of the suspects and recovery of the drugs.

“Drug dealers are destroying our communities and crippling the lives of our youth by supplying them with dangerous drugs. We will do everything in our power to remove them from society and lock them up in jail,” said General Ngobeni.
