Update: Workers escape flames and rescue man’s best friend.
(WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT) Factory workers were thrilled when one of the four guard dogs was rescued from the building.
“We looked up and the smoke was everywhere we just ran! We didn’t know he was still trapped inside.”
Tears welled up in the young man’s eyes as he recollected how the flames forced workers to abandon their posts and flee the building.
It was only after workers exited the building they realised two of the four guard dogs on site were trapped behind the flames.
“One of the dogs was still tied at the side of the building. We heard him crying, barking and scratching the door but we couldn’t do anything. ”
Fortunately the second dog was not completely trapped, and one brave worker rushed in as the flames waned. With the dog rescued, workers then began to discuss how the fire began.
The factory produced carpet underlays and workers were apparently cutting materials when the fire began. “It was a small spark from the wires and then everything was on fire,” said an employee.
The fire spread quickly due to the copious amount of recycling waste material that littered the property waiting to be collected.
According to sources, the factory was being rented out by the company, and had allegedly not been complying with some safety regulations.
“With all the flammable materials stacked up the way it was, there was not much people could do to save the building,” said the source.
The SPCA has taken in the three dogs that survived the incident, and most of the flames have now been doused.
