DHS enjoy hockey success in the Flower City

During the past school holidays, Mrs Raffenberg accompanied the first boys’ hockey team to Bloemfontein for some hockey fun. The tournament was well organised and had the opportunity to play a match every day and had to compete against bigger schools who were used to astro turf, but the DHS boys did well. They lost only one game, drew two and won two games. Larnell Nero was awarded the “mid-fielder” of the tournament! It must be mentioned that the DHS hockey boys displayed excellent behaviour and truly made their school proud. They were the only school there with any kind of school spirit and, as a result, their matches were well-supported by the other schools, especially the girls!
The first team would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all their sponsors who cannot be repaid for their support and kindness. A special thank you to Churchyard and Umpleby and Mr Naidoo for the lovely jackets. Also, a thank you to Mr and Mrs Maree of Glendee Cellars for sponsoring the practice T-shirts for the team. The first team would like to assure you that they were good ambassadors!
KZN Netball Trials
Several DHS netball girls have been selected for the next round of trials. They will be representing Umzinyathi at Hoy Park in Durban. Congratulations to Andy Magubane and Sibahle Shabalala (under 13); Snegugu Zwane, Luyanda Xaba, Mfundo Makhoba and Sisanda Thango (under 14); Sandra Smith, Lethiwe Mathonsi and Zanethemba Kunene (under 15); Minenhle Ndlovu, Simangaye Nkwanyana and Ziyanda Ngwane (under 16); Saziso Khumalo, Zethembiso Zindela, Zenani Gombela, Londeka Nyathi and Sisanda Mtshali (under 17); Bongiwe Ntshangase and Langa Nxumalo (under 18) and Sinothile Ndlazi (under 19).
Bloodbank
The bloodbank arrived at DHS on April 21 to collect blood units. After a day of smiles and bravery, 88 units of blood were collected. It was also announced that DHS was the top school with the highest number of units donated in 2014.
