According to official sources, a Chinese man was shot in the chest in an attempted hijacking on the N11 this morning.
The man’s brother, who was allegedly with him in the delivery vehicle at the time of the shooting, drove him to the hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life.
Doctor Relationship Manager at Mediclinic Newcastle, Mariette Claasen, confirmed the man had been stabilised, but remained in critical condition.
“He sustained a bullet wound to the chest,” she said. “We are awaiting results from the x-ray department to determine the extent of his injuries.”
The incident is currently subject to police investigation.
