UPDATE: Hijack attempt victim in critical condition

The victim remains in a critical, yet stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at MediClinic Newcastle.

The man shot in the chest in an hijack attempt on the N11 this morning, is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at MediClinic Newcastle.

After conducting a CT scan, doctors concluded it would not be necessary to transfer the patient to another hospital to undergo surgery to remove the bullet.

Doctor Relationship Manager at Mediclinic Newcastle, Mariette Claasen said the man was ‘critical, but stable’.

“The patient did not need to be taken to threatre to remove the bullet.”

Spokesperson for the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Councillor Alex Liu confirmed the victim is from Polokwane. He was in Newcastle on business.
