The readers’ have spoken!

Walking away with the coveted Miss Readers' Choice and Miss Body Beautiful award, the 17-year-old has the world at her fingertips.

A diamond in the rough.

Amorette Steyn won big at the Miss Newcastle 2015 Diamonds and Divas pageant.

Walking away with the coveted Miss Readers’ Choice and Miss Body Beautiful award, the 17-year-old has the world at her fingertips.

“I’m a dreamer. I talk in circles sometimes and very few people understand, but I make sense to myself.”

Attributing her success to the backing of her family and friends, Amorette thanked everyone who went out of their way to vote for her.

“I think people voted for me because of my personality. The people that know me were really happy for me. They weren’t really surprised, because they expected it.”

The stunner admitted she never expected to win the Readers’ Choice award, but was grateful nonetheless.

Amorette and Miss Newcastle 2015, Ashley-Rose Viljoen have mutual respect and admiration for bombshell, Rolene Strauss.

“She’s my favourite model. I know people think it’s because she’s Miss World, but she’s an example to all models. She is proof that no matter what title you have, you should always stay humble.”

Amorette came to rely on the strength of the other contestants, admitting the competition was incredibly tough at times. Receiving invaluable advice from Miss Newcastle 2013, Amy Bushell also made the journey that much more enjoyable.

“Amy told us to ‘fake it until you make it’,” she said. “There are times when you’re tired and want to give up, but that’s when you stand up, put a smile on your face and do what needs to be done.”

Amorette ‘sunk her stilettos’ into the catwalk at age four. Today she understands the impact being a figurehead in the modelling industry could potentially have.

“I entered Miss Newcastle because I saw first-hand how it changed people’s lives,” she explained. “I honestly believe if you want to make a change in the lives of others, you have to start with yourself.”

Amorette hoped the misconceptions about models would eventually be a thing of the past.

“You don’t have to be super pretty or have the perfect body. Modelling is so much more than that.”

In terms of her personal style, Amorette likes ‘dressing like a lady, with a flair of sexy’.

“I like the fact the old trends are making a comeback. As a child I loved wearing my mom’s clothes. I’d incorporate something new to make it my own.”

The youngster plans to study teaching at the North-West University in 2016.

“If I’m still around next year, I’d like to take part in Miss Newcastle again.”

Amorette thanked Christine and Robert Harburn, the team at Newcastle Wound and Stoma Clinic, the contestants and her friends and family for their support and belief in the power of beauty with a purpose.

“If I could put the experience I’ve gained from Miss Newcastle in a matchbox, it would overflow. There are so many things I can take with me into the future. Miss Newcastle has me a stronger woman and I know I can stand firmly for what I believe in,” she concluded.

The Newcastle Advertiser congratulated Amorette of her outstanding achievements and wished her well on her path to greatness!
