Murderer sentenced to life
There had apparently been an argument between the victim and Mabaso. The fight became violent, when Mabaso stabbed the victim multiple times and attacked him with a hammer. He died on the scene.
Last Friday, Patrick Mlamuli ‘Malema’ Mabaso was sentenced by the Madadeni High Court to life imprisonment for murder and an additional 15 years for robbery.
Colonel Jay Naicker from the KwaZulu-Natal South African Corporate Communication Centre, said the murder took place on 24 June 2013 at 10.30pm, in Lakeside, a stone’s throw away from Vryheid.

Before fleeing the scene, Mabaso took his victim’s bank cards.
The deceased’s body was later found by a passer-by who contacted the police. A case of murder and robbery was opened at Vryheid Police Station.
Within two days, Vryheid detectives made a breakthrough when they arrested Mabaso and charged him with murder and robbery.
The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, welcomed the sentenced handed down to the accused. “I also wish to thank the Vryheid detectives who thoroughly investigated the case. It is obvious they had gathered sufficient evidence to ensure that the accused was convicted.”
