On Friday May 29, South Africans around the country will be switching to sneakers in support of the annual Tekkie Tax Day.

With CANSA overseeing the initiative in Newcastle, the community is urged to show its support.

Several beneficiaries will gain from Tekkie Tax, like animals, basic family care, children, disability, and education.

“Education is one of the biggest challenges in South Africa and unless we win this battle, a lot of other problems will stay with us. Tekkie Tax strives to provide education to adults and children to launch them into a successful, sustainable future. Our educational programmes at CANSA Care Centres countrywide, aim to make all aware of the symptoms of cancer, the importance of regular screening and how to reduce your cancer risk. When you choose an education sticker this Tekkie Tax Day, it will go towards helping us in reaching a bigger goal.” Elize Joubert, CANSA’s Acting CEO, said.

To support the worthy cause, you can buy a sticker at the CANSA offices, 1 Vlam Street, or snap up a pair of funky shoelaces, also known as ‘Tekkie tags’, including a sticker for a R30 donation.

The Tekkie Tax campaign is endorsed by 16 of the biggest and most accountable national non-profit organisations in the country, representing more than 1 500 local organisations, CANSA being one of them.
