Rapists face consequences of their actions
Recently an 18-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in a horrific gang rape. Evidence heard in Madadeni Regional Court, painted a bleak picture of how six men had raped a 21-year-old woman.

Police have been clamping down on rape, persecuting rapists to ensure the safety of the community.
Recently an 18-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in a horrific gang rape.
Evidence heard in Madadeni Regional Court, painted a bleak picture of how six men had raped a 21-year-old woman in Section 3, Madadeni during 2012.
After the man were taken into custody, the suspect was positively linked to the crime through DNA.
“The victim was pleased to receive closure of the matter and is hoping that the lesson will be learned by other perpetrators,” Captain Magudulea commented.
In another incident, a man was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment for raping his ex-girlfriend.
She had allegedly been asleep in her house when he gained access to her property and violated her.
He pleaded guilty to the crime in Madadeni Regional Court.
In the third incident, an 11-year-old girl was raped by her grandfather.
The victim had been left in his care by her grandmother. “The grandmother found the child crying and contacted the police. Her husband was arrested and sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment by Newcastle Regional Court,” Captain Magudulela said.
