In yet another tragic accident this morning at the Tea Cup, near the well known Altyd Somer Padstal on the Dundee Road, reckless driving has claimed the life of a pedestrian.

Following many unfortunate and avoidable accidents in recent times, where several children were killed as a result of negligence by motorists on this dangerous stretch of road, the Roads Department installed rumble strips across the road near the TeaCup, extended the speed limit east and west, and also extended the no-overtaking solid white line in both directions (Vryheid Herald, May 26, 2014).

The rumble strips have, however, proven to be ineffective, with an eyewitness reporting that vehicles, specifically trucks, merely move into the barrier lane, often speeding, to avoid the rumble strips.

The young woman whose life was senselessly cut short this morning, was on her way to work when the tragedy occurred.
