At approximately 7.40pm on Monday, June 1 two occupants of a white Toyota Corolla aged 48 and 50 were arrested at the corner of Alfred and Harding streets for dealing drugs.

Police officials followed the vehicle from Frere as they have been working on a tip-off made by community members. The two suspects Ricky Govender (48) and Farhana Dawood Shaik (50) were traveling from Ladysmith, when they made a stop in the central business district.

Police requested a of search the vehicle and found Rohypnol tablets inside one of the front seats. Rohypnol tablets can cost up to an estimated R8 000 more than street value once purchased. The two were arrested and appeared before the Estcourt Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 2 and were released on R2 000 bail each. Police investigations continue.

The Cluster Commander Brigadier Reynders and the Station Commander Colonel Kheswa commended the good work carried out by police officials. “These drugs are intended to destroy our youth and community,” they said in unison.
