Breading the way to success

B &B Bakeries, a division of Premier Foods, recently put smiles on the faces of pupils from Siyawela Primary School.

The school is one of Newcastle’s schools in need and the company noticed the need to help both the school and its pupils.

“The school has many underprivileged children, and does not receive Government funding,” explained Premier Foods Brand Ambassador of Newcastle, Reena Nandhlall.

The local branch raised more than R2 000 to donate to the school, and also sponsored soccer balls, T-shirts, school bags and lunches for the pupils.

“About 77 children in this school had no school bags and we changed this. It may seem small, but it makes a difference to them,” said Depot Manager of Premier Foods, Simon Mostert.

He said this was definitely not the last time the company would be helping the school.

The money raised for the school was through staff contributions alone.

“We have a lunch day for everyone at the depot. They each pay for their own food, and the resulting profit was how we raised our funds for the school,” he explained.

The school pupils were delighted when the B & B Bakeries’ mascot danced to the DJ’s beat and were quick to join in the celebrations associated with the donation.
