Thirty schools from Emadlangeni, Dannhauser and Newcastle will participate in an essay writing and Artifacts from Waste competition on June 23.
The event will be hosted under the auspices of the Simply Clean environmental awareness campaign at Dannhauser Primary School.
The campaign forms a more localised part of the national Department of Environmental Affairs’ Youth Jobs in Waste initiative.
The department predicts the campaign will result in visibly cleaner towns and cities, a reduction in illegal dumping, and the successful implementation of waste separation at the source.
Targeting schools, the competition will focus on the unique viewpoints of pupils on proper waste management and innovative creations using recyclable material.
The three R (Reduce, Re-use, Recycle) principal will also come under the spotlight.
