Majuba TVET equips teachers
Training teachers means pupils are better equipped.
The foundation of education is lain by teachers.
Understanding only about five per cent of pupils attend university, Majuba Tvet College is taking up its role in equipping the future workforce.
This is being accomplished through training of KwaZulu-Natal teachers.
In line with the proposed CAPS (Curriculum Assesment Policy Statement) model of 2016, mechanical and electrical technology teachers from across the province will be hosted at the college training centre.
Trained teachers are expected to better equip pupils.
Explaining CAPS, Jean le Roux of the Department of Education said a directive from the MEC of Basic Education, dealt with critical skill shortages for those finishing school, offering specialisation in mechanical, electrical and civil technology.
Two new subjects have also been introduced.
“At this stage, will train teachers on the Grade 10 syllabus. They will have five days this week and another five in the October holidays.”
In the following two years, the Grade 11 and 12 syllabus will be tackled.
The implementation of the CAPS model is under constant watch by a National Training Team from the Basic Education Department, and approximately 340 teachers in KZN will take part.
