SPCA targeted by burglars – again
Over the weekend, criminals attempted to steal the society’s vehicle and then conducted a sinister raid in pursuit of items to pilfer.
The long fingers of crime are on the throat of the SPCA.
Over the weekend, criminals attempted to steal the society’s vehicle and then conducted a sinister raid in pursuit of items to pilfer.
Inspector, Elize van Rooyen said it was unclear what the burglars sought.
“Maybe if they could have opened the gate, they would have taken the vehicle. They broke the window and tried to force the bonnet open; they also tried to take the battery.”
Mrs van Rooyen believed the criminals were in a hurry or interrupted, focusing instead on rooting through the cubbyhole and discarding its contents on the ground.
The burglars also forced open the food shed door.
“There was nothing to take – since the last burglary, we don’t keep tools anymore.”
This latest incident seemed to suggest a link to the two recent dog poisonings at the SPCA, although Mrs van Rooyen remains uncertain.
She is also unsure where criminals are getting onto the property.
“We have barbed wire on the perimeter and they should have left evidence behind.”
In an attempt to secure this evidence and answer the numerous questions, SAPS officials responded to the scene shortly after the break-in.
