Police tighten up on ‘chop shops’
Hot spots around the country were targeted on Saturday, with Ladysmith identified as a high risk area for hijacking
Police have started to clamp down on one of the biggest crimes in the country, which is car theft.
Countrywide police operations began over the long weekend, targeting panel-beaters in towns including Ladysmith. Police swooped on ‘chop shops’ (places where stolen vehicles are dismantled so that the parts can be sold or used to repair other stolen vehicles).
‘Operation Tornado’, as it is known, has seen more than 20 arrests being made and engines, gearboxes, cars and guns seized.
