The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recently released the dates for the 2015 rabies campaign.

An official at the department said vaccines will only be administered at central locations this year. The cutback is apparently due to a shortage of staff and vehicles.

State vets will visit the following areas from August 24 to September 3:

– August 24: Central Business District (Corner of Hospital and Sutherland streets) and Arbor Park (BP filling station).

– August 25: Siyahlala-la (Squatter camp: Apollo Light) and Fairleigh (Fairleigh Library / Hall).

– August 26: Lennoxton (Lennoxton Library and the Ashram Centre).

– August 27: Fernwood (Fernwood Shop) and Paradise (Shopping centre on the corner of Jenkyn and Bird streets).

– August 28: Sunny Ridge (Ferrum High School swimming pool) and Pioneer Park (Drakensberg Primary School on the corner of Paddock Drive and Baxter Road).

– August 29: Farmers Hall under the trees (Please note: vaccinations will be administered from 8am to 2pm).

– August 31: Signal Hill (Corner of HJ van Eck Drive and Gemini Avenue) and Schuinshoogte (Corner of Erica Drive and Drakensberg Drive).

– September 1: Barry Hertzog Park (Shopping centre / garage) and Amajuba Park (Shopping centre).

– September 2: Ncandu Park (Hope Full Service High School play park).

– September 3: Hutten Heights (Shopping centre), Aviary Hill (Mini market in Nagtegaal Street) and Amiel Park (Play park on Eaton Road).

Unless indicated otherwise, vaccinations will take place between 9am and 5pm.

Rabies is preventable with the use of vaccinations, so be sure to bring all your furry friends along!
