Ward 4 faces daily water cuts as reservoir levels remain low

According to Water Services technicians, they are still struggling with the level of the Northdown Reservoir.

It seems that the Ward 4 water crisis is about to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

Democratic Alliance Ward 4 Councillor Bertie Meiring has informed residents through his official communication channels that water supply interruptions will now occur daily.

“I discussed the situation with the technicians from Water Services. They are still struggling with the level of the Northdown Reservoir,” he said.

He explained that although water was being pumped at maximum capacity, the reservoir was still not filling up to full capacity.

“They are now checking all the valves on the line because many are old and they struggle to open the valves to their maximum,” he explained.

Daily water cuts for affected areas

For now, the municipality will close the water supply lines to Hutten Heights, Amiel Park and the lower parts of Pioneer Park daily at the following times:

Daily water interruption schedule:

  • 09:00: Water supply closed.
  • 15:00: Water supply reopened.
  • 21:00: Water supply closed.
  • 03:00: Water supply reopened.

Meiring said residents should expect their water supply to be interrupted mainly during the day.

“The water will be closed mostly during the day. This process will continue until they have fixed the whole system,” he concluded.
