A 62-year-old man was arrested in KwaNtuThuthu Reserve after police seized three unlicensed firearms and ammunition

A 62-year-old man was arrested after police recovered three unlicensed firearms and ammunition during an intelligence-driven operation in KwaNtuThuthu Reserve.

Police arrested the suspect on October 15 following an operation conducted by the District Crime Intelligence Unit and the Provincial Tracing Team in KwaNtuThuthu Reserve, under the eMatimatolo policing area.

SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Siyabonga Nkwanyana said the operation was prompted by information about the alleged possession of unlicensed firearms.

The firearms recovered included a pistol, a shotgun and a .38 Special revolver, along with ammunition.

Nkwanyana said the recovered firearms would undergo ballistic testing to establish whether they had been used in other criminal offences.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to soon appear in the Greytown Magistrate’s Court.
