Newcastle High School’s Quiz team are on cloud nine after receiving news of having qualified to participate in the National High School Quiz Championships finals to be held at Monash University in Johannesburg this December.
The team qualified to compete in the National Finals after finishing among the top 32 schools nationally in the provincial trials held at the NHS on July 21.
NHS was represented by matriculants Devesh Gowda, Mark Lutchman, Lungelo Sigudla, and Shria Naidoo, who is in Grade 10. The team was supported by Mr. BM Kadye, Mr. D Moolman and Mrs. R East.
“Well, NHS is not a school of opportunities for nothing; things happen here. I, as your headmaster, am proud of your achievement and I’m confident that you are going to do your best. I would also like to thank your teachers who have worked very hard to bring you to this level of the competition.” said NHS Headmaster, Manny Govender.
Teachers worked many tireless weeks, including school holidays, to prepare the team for the event.
Quiz Club coordinator, Mr. BM Kadye, said he was very proud of the team’s achievement and wished his team the best of luck in the upcoming championships
