Man jailed for raping a handicapped woman

Madadeni Regional Magistrate’s Court recently sentenced Moses Hadebe to 10 years’ imprisonment for the rape of a handicapped woman.

According to police, the handicapped victim was accompanied by the accused to the store to purchase food on October 14, 2013.

The accused proceeded to rape the 19-year-old woman, stripping her of her innocence and dignity.

The victim returned home and told a family member what had happened. The incident was subsequently reported to police.

“The accused fled from the area and was arrested after seven months,” said SAPS spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela.

Hadebe was remanded in custody pending the outcome of the trial. He pled guilty to the charges against him.

Police hope the sentence will serve as a deterrent to potential sex offenders.

The community commended the investigating officers and the State for securing Hadebe’s conviction.
