The body of a 34-year-old builder was recovered yesterday in the Tom Worthington dam, Hattingspruit.
The man, named as Dominic James of Newcastle, was doing contract work in the Hattingspruit area, had apparently gone swimming in the dam on Sunday.
Major Thulani Zwane, police spokesman for KZN, said the man had been swimming about 130 metres from the side in a depth of about four meters where he got into difficulties and drowned.
Members of the SAPS K9 Unit and the K9 ‘Bear’ were dispatched to the scene and managed to recover the body within the indicated area. Major Zwane said the police had done well as ‘conditions were very trying’.
An inquest was opened at Hattingspruit police station.
