The two-wheeled crime craze continues

One street, two targets; a proverbial grand slam for bike thieves.

Moller Street became a hive activity as Newcastle’s most cunning crooks worked overtime on September 27.

According to reports, two residents awoke to find their motorcycles had been stolen during the course of the night.

The descriptions of the motorcycles are as follows:

– Red Honda XR125: Registration number – NN36665.

– Blue Suzuki 125: Registration number – NN77920.

Newcastle is no stranger to an increase in motorcycle thefts; the result of which has left many an owner uneasy.

By November 2014, 67 bikes had reportedly been stolen, setting in motion allegations of a crime syndicate. Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela quickly dismissed the rumour, stating the investigations were still in the early stages. He claimed it was impossible to assume a syndicate was to blame for the spate of thefts.

Statistics remained low, until the most recent incidents became the talk of the town once again.

The thefts have since been reported and are currently under investigation. It is unclear at this stage whether the one-day spike is in fact a cause for concern.

In the meantime, residents are advised to keep their gates locked at all times and ensure their motorcycles are out of sight.
