Update: Hiker slips down cliff and dies
Attempts to resuscitate the man failed

A hiking trip cost a 61-year old man his life, after he slipped and fell down an embankment yesterday morning.
The man and his son were on a hiking route at a hotel in the Berg area. It is believed that the elderly hiker slipped and fell down a steep embankment, 20 to 30 metres up the cliff.
The son, who is believed to have raised the alarm, informed hotel management of what had happened.
Sharaj Mountain Rescue responded and a daring mountain rescue was conducted. When rescue personnel and medics got to the hikers, attempts to resuscitate the father failed and he was declared deceased.
Pietermaritzburg K9 Search & Rescue were called in to retrieve the body.
Winterton police are investigating an inquest into the death.
