Crime round-up paints a bleak picture

The streets of Newcastle east and west are plagued with crimes that often go unnoticed.

Here is a selection of the crimes that took place during the month of October:

Teens arrested for murder

Two suspects, aged 18 and 19, were arrested for murder on October 2 at about 9.30pm.

Police records indicate the culprits stabbed 32-year-old, Bongani Nzima, during an altercation at Soul City in Madadeni.

The victim sustained three fatal stab wounds to his upper body.

“[The] motive for the killing is still unknown,” said SAPS spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela.

Man threatened with a knife

A man was robbed of his cell phone at a local taxi rank on October 3 at about 9.40am. Two suspects armed with a knife reportedly robbed the victim of his cell phone and cash. Police were contacted and managed to nab both suspects.They are expected to appear before a court in due course.

Man found in possession of Mandrax

A 29-year-old man was arrested for possession of Mandrax tablets in Madadeni Section 3 on October 4. While out on patrol, police searched the perpetrator and found 64 tablets stashed in his trousers. The street value of the drugs is believed to be around R3 000. The suspect was detained at Madadeni Police Station and is expected to appear before a local court soon.

The abovementioned incidents are currently under police investigation.
