A former soldier has been convicted and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for rape.

On May 17, a 22-year-old woman was inside her barracks in Harrismith Road when 28-year-old Mfundo Innocent Ndosi approached her. He made sexual advances towards her and when she spurned these advances, he raped her.

The matter was reported to police and Ndosi was arrested.

The case was handed to Warrant Officer Masengemi of the Ladysmith Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) to investigate.

On October 1, Ndosi was convicted and sentenced for the crime.

He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
