Several injured in a string of collisions

A series of collisions over a two-day period resulted in several patients sustaining minor to serious injuries.

Pedestrians, passengers, motorists and motorcyclists were of those injured in four separate wrecks on October 17 and 18.

Here’s a round-up of the collisions that took place over the weekend:

Pedestrian injured in hit and run

A man is his 40s sustained moderate injuries when he was run over by a light motor vehicle on Saturday night.

“The man was attending wedding celebrations at the time of the accident,” said ER24 spokesperson, Jan Henk van Vuuren.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly  before emergency services arrived.

The patient was stabilised on scene, and transported to Mediclinic Newcastle for further treatment.

Mother and son involved in collision

A woman and her son were involved in a two-car collision at the intersection of Allen and Hardwick streets on Sunday morning.

The patients sustained only minor injuries, and were treated on scene by paramedics.

“They were taken to Mediclinic Newcastle for further care,” said Mr van Vuuren. “The exact cause of the collisions remains unclear.”

Motorcyclist escapes with minor injuries

A young motorcyclist sustained minor injures after colliding with a vehicle on Hardwick Street on Sunday afternoon.

The cause of the incident is unclear at this stage, however authorities were on scene to investigate.

Two seriously injured in Albert Wessels crash

“Three people were injured, two of them seriously after the vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and crashed down the side of the bridge on Albert Wessels Drive,” claimed Mr van Vuuren

The incident apparently occurred on Sunday afternoon. Paramedics from ER24 and KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.

“We found two of the patients close to the wreck and another patient under the bridge,” he explained. “They were all stabilised on scene and taken to hospital for further care.

The causes of the above mentioned collisions are unclear at this stage. However, the incidents remain the subject of police investigations.
