Two women aged 25 and 80 were arrested during a joint crime prevention operation held in Emmaus, Bergville on Tuesday, October 13.
The Upper Tugela Control Police teamed up with the Ladysmith Crime Intelligence unit to conduct the operation. Over 162 kilograms of dagga with the street value of R230 000 was seized.
The two suspects were charged with possession of dagga and made an appearance in the Bergville Magistrates Court on Wednesday, October 14.
The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the members for their vigilance, which led to the recovery of the dagga.
“We will continue to secure our borders from being used for criminal activities and put criminals behind bars. Drugs destroy lives and we will do everything within our control to remove them from our streets,” she said.
